WTF

AppleMiner · · #73842

@cryptoking :  Hi..and welcome to the pool.

Forum notification · · #73843

has started a new topic: D3

AppleMiner · · #73844

no one is even going to be able to read any of that in another 10 lines of text.

MrHollowPoints · · #73845

Question

MrHollowPoints · · #73846

You do not get paid for blocks found when doing PPS correct?

AppleMiner · · #73847

answers

MrHollowPoints · · #73848

Only when solo?

AppleMiner · · #73849

you do get paid

AppleMiner · · #73850

you get paid the pps share same as everyone else in pps

AppleMiner · · #73851

and when they find one and you dont, you get a cut of their find

AppleMiner · · #73852

but you dont get - bonus or extra

AppleMiner · · #73853

just for finding one

AppleMiner · · #73854

if you found all of the blocks in pps or none of them...you would still earn the same

MrHollowPoints · · #73855

Ah okay

VicBradley · · #73856

@AppleMiner : </strong> You do seem to get that question alot, hun?

VicBradley · · #73857

@AppleMiner : </strong> I have a question that I haven’t seen on the forum yet, about the IRS.

AppleMiner · · #73858

not sure i can answer that one

VicBradley · · #73859

If the IRS is going to tax Coinbase account withdrawls as if they are capital gains, how will they determine the difference beetween income generated from a mining machine, and true capital gains made from investing in Crypto Coins?

AppleMiner · · #73860

my understanding is there is no difference

VicBradley · · #73861

oh wow!

AppleMiner · · #73862

my understanding...and i could be very wrong or it could have changed 2 or 3 times by now...

VicBradley · · #73863

yeah, mining has overhead, just like a business

AppleMiner · · #73864

when you sell the coins you mined, you pay a capital gains tax. if it was within 1 year its double what you pay if you helld them for 1 year and 1 day after making them

AppleMiner · · #73865

you subtract from the capital gains tax owed...what you already paid

VicBradley · · #73866

sounds complicatred

AppleMiner · · #73867

at the time the coins were made, and sent to a wallet you control...you owe taxes on income generated for the value of the coins you recived at that time

travelinmusic · · #73868

It’s a sham...e , I posted a ticket on 18/Dec/17 6:40 PM fora missing $50 cash payout to coinbase. I have yet to receive the $50 and am waiting support. They did egnoledge it and said they would look into it further. However I pulled 10 miners from the pool until I get my $50 bucks back. I see the earning are up and the it is drawing me back but...

AppleMiner · · #73869

so if I mined a coin today at $1000, I owe taxes today on $1000.

AppleMiner · · #73870

if I sell it for $3000, I owe capital gains on 3000 profit, minus the $ for taxes I paid for the $1000 when I made it.

AppleMiner · · #73871

but the IRS doesnt care if you sell it, lose it, or had it stolen on an exhcnage

VicBradley · · #73872

so you owe taxes before you even cash it out from Coinbase?

AppleMiner · · #73873

if prohashing tells IRS they sent you 60K worth of litecoins this year...you owe taxes on 60K wether you ever sell them or not

MrHollowPoints · · #73874

Why the hell do we have to pay taxes? This is crypto.

MrHollowPoints · · #73875

BS

MrHollowPoints · · #73876

Freaking US govt crooks

AppleMiner · · #73877

becuase if you could pay for stuff and not get taxed, no one would use usd, only crypto and then what?

VicBradley · · #73878

that kind of policy is going to make miners seek out pools that don’t report to the IRS

MrHollowPoints · · #73879

Overseas pools on a proxy perhaps?

AppleMiner · · #73880

the government cant run itself on what it makes now, you want to take...all of that away and think they will manage?

AppleMiner · · #73881

VicBradley wrote: that kind of policy is going to make miners seek out pools that don’t report to the IRS
already has, I had to move.

VicBradley · · #73882

Well, glad you’re still on this chatroom

AppleMiner · · #73883

oh yeah ill still hang out and help people get connected

AppleMiner · · #73884

and swat nike shoe ads that pop up

VicBradley · · #73885

are you comfortable recommending any of those pools?

AppleMiner · · #73886

and Ill pay my capital gains taxes WHEN i sell out my coins.

VicBradley · · #73887

@AppleMiner : </strong> That sounds fair

AppleMiner · · #73888

oh...and then whatever the profits are...you then have to take self employment taxes off of that

VicBradley · · #73889

@AppleMiner : </strong> are you comfortable recommending any of those pools?

AppleMiner · · #73890

so in the end I think its half what you make. Make 1K...put 500 in the bank

VicBradley · · #73891

less electric

AppleMiner · · #73892

i think each miner needs to try and experiment and find the pool that works best for them and gives them the options or profits they are looking for.

travelinmusic · · #73893

AppleMiner wrote: but the IRS doesnt care if you sell it, lose it, or had it stolen on an exhcnage
Are you sure about that? I file self employed and have several businesses. There is always a line item if needed for theft or loss.

AppleMiner · · #73894

they may have a 2K writeoff, but I meant as far as they tax you at time of creation

AppleMiner · · #73895

they dont care what happens if it sells or what after the fact

travelinmusic · · #73896

well I know they don’t "care" but there is always a way to add a loss

AppleMiner · · #73897

at the time its made, if they know you made 40 LTC, they tax you for the value of 40LTC.

travelinmusic · · #73898

I am talking about Theft mostly.

AppleMiner · · #73899

trouble there I think would be proving it.

VicBradley · · #73900

@AppleMiner : </strong> they must have some database, tracking the value of all the coins on a daily or hourly basis in order to calculate what to tax you.

AppleMiner · · #73901

@VicBradley :  no...they are going to get 1099s from here if your US and earn over 650 a year.

AppleMiner · · #73902

and if you do enough volue on coinbase, they submit your info to the IRS also

travelinmusic · · #73903

Has anyone filed bit profits yet? I used to do day trading many years ago and had to enter each and every trade in and out. etrade etc does it for you now but I cant imagine the 1000+ page tax report for a years worth of earnings. insane

AppleMiner · · #73904

and your bank...Im sure they have no issues pointing out the largish 3K deposits...or 360X payments of $20 a day

VicBradley · · #73905

hmmm. what if you move it off coinbase to, a hardware wallet?

AppleMiner · · #73906

yep, you could mine at a non US pool that doesnt send 1099s, and store it in a foreign or offline wallet.

AppleMiner · · #73907

and then what?

AppleMiner · · #73908

wait for LTC or BTC to be globally accept for purchases and then spend it off the hard wallet?

travelinmusic · · #73909

You don.t prove anything unless audited, you just file what the facts are and the monster eats it.

AppleMiner · · #73910

I file on the side of caution, if I dont have the proof ready to show ahead of time...I dont claim it.

AppleMiner · · #73911

@VicBradley :  at some point you may want to turn some of the crypto into fiat to pay some bills or buy things from folks who arent taking crypto yet for purchases.

travelinmusic · · #73912

I hear ya, not looking to get screwed for evasion but the loss I am concerned with was a theft for a purchased miner through ali scam ba. is well documented.

AppleMiner · · #73913

that usually means a bank...or the mob...or a guy in a coffeeshop with a briefcase full of cash.

AppleMiner · · #73914

ok but that is a physical theft

AppleMiner · · #73915

you paid, and item wasnt delivered

AppleMiner · · #73916

you have tracking or not, a receipt or not

AppleMiner · · #73917

Im talking about...you mined 100 BTC this year....OPPS I lost the wallet key..I think ill try to write off 100 BTC from my taxes.

AppleMiner · · #73918

gooood luck with that.

VicBradley · · #73919

@AppleMiner : </strong> Yeah, so then we’d need someone offshore that does the same thing Coinbase does...
