not here

tmopar · · #6479

I have some old S1s.... are they useless on the sha256 altcoin side?

JKDReaper · · #6480

They can be cheaper...what i do is go to NH, set a relatively high hash and see how long it takes using .01 btc

JKDReaper · · #6481

Then go to MRR and find rigs that hash rate, put the same number of hours, and see what it costs

tmopar · · #6482

So you really think hands off renting is the way to go?

JKDReaper · · #6483

But the key to that working, again, is to mark box to show rented rigs...as the best rates are gone first. It will tell you when they will be available again. It’s really just a matter of comparing and deciding which is best considerimg rental rates as well as cirremt profits here

JKDReaper · · #6484

Thats a tough call...long term, owning would probably net you more...but for me, it is better to rent for now (I have put $40 of my own cash into crypto total...I challenged myself to make good money using only $50.

JKDReaper · · #6485

If i had $5000 i was willing to spend...I would buy rigs to run here, given my electricity costs

JKDReaper · · #6486

On your S1 question...what kinda hash rate the give ya?

tmopar · · #6487

i have 4 ... they do around 180G each

tmopar · · #6488

reasonable power... I can run that for about 1kw or so

tmopar · · #6489

power here is cheap 7c/kwh

JKDReaper · · #6490

Without running the numbers and researching coins, i would say you probably could make them profitable. I have been looking for a couple in that hash range to buy myself using a bit if my profits to use...

tmopar · · #6491

Where are you based out of reaper if you dont mind me asking

JKDReaper · · #6492

Southeast US

tmopar · · #6493

are you under TVA?

JKDReaper · · #6494

Yes

tmopar · · #6495

you probably got a real similar situation to me

JKDReaper · · #6496

TVA as well?

tmopar · · #6497

yeah... do you know what you pay for a kwh?

JKDReaper · · #6498

If i remember right, its between 9-10

tmopar · · #6499

ouch

tmopar · · #6500

if i had to guess VA ?

tmopar · · #6501

maybe GA?

JKDReaper · · #6502

Ya just looked, its 10. Yours at 7 is pretty cheap for tva, no?

tmopar · · #6503

theres a hydro damn within 10 miles

tmopar · · #6504

dam rather lol

tmopar · · #6505

btw microhydro is the way to go... im going to be doing a small 5kw setup as an experiment

tmopar · · #6506

way cheaper and more reliable than solar

JKDReaper · · #6507

I bet i could about point at you on a map then lol

tmopar · · #6508

well i mean there arem ore than one or two

tmopar · · #6509

it’d be a game of guess who

mrgoldy · · #6510

9-10 is ouch? I'm at 13.2

tmopar · · #6511

you probably got l3s though i bet

tmopar · · #6512

Im running everything i can get my hands on from zeus pieces to orbs to terminators dominators, I have an alch coming hopefully will be here next week, im running out of capacity

tmopar · · #6513

my power bill last month was about 500, but i mean, at 600 mh, you will make that back in a week and a half

JKDReaper · · #6514

Ya ok, so your 13 is OUCH lol...i couldnt imagine it. Always lived in cheap areas, outside of short stint in Daytona

tmopar · · #6515

I met a guy off of ebay

tmopar · · #6516

god i want his house

tmopar · · #6517

he had it done the entire bottom basement.... for a hundred or so S7s

tmopar · · #6518

and he was getting out of the bitcoin game, had his transformer upgraded to 600 amps, everything 220 volt professionally done... he had ventilation systems and a beautiful house you couldnt tell on a cul de sac

JKDReaper · · #6519

How expensive is the microhydro to startup?

tmopar · · #6520

you need some inverters, some old motors from like a washer (ideal) or some old industrial pieces

tmopar · · #6521

so if you have this stuff, you have no cost except your time

tmopar · · #6522

wiring

tmopar · · #6523

piping... you need a good drop between two points

JKDReaper · · #6524

100 s7s? He have his own coal factory or hydro dam? LoL

tmopar · · #6525

na the poor guy was mining and selling, he didnt have any other income... if he had kept the coins i never would have met him

tmopar · · #6526

i learned a lot

tmopar · · #6527

err mining and immediately selling

JKDReaper · · #6528

I live in the boonies, middle of mountains, and im a hillbilly...i have all that in my garage and plenty of drops with a natural spring or 12 to feed it lol

tmopar · · #6529

you basically in a nutshell find a good flowing river or stream with steady year round predictable flows and tap it with simple pvc... You then pipe all long the natural flow of the river to your drain point... the bigger the delta in elevation between the two, factoring in the flow from pipe in psi give you the max theorhetical output. You theen need a impeller to transfer this hydro motion to the motors and they run in reverse

JKDReaper · · #6530

True...I have 3 "funds". 1 long term invest, 1 to day trade, and 1 to rent hash. Have a 4th I just started to get minimg rigs

tmopar · · #6531

the rest is simply matching voltages with a controller, you dont need batteries as much at all because the system can be metered... if you need more juice you can just open the throttle a little

tmopar · · #6532

you ideally would match your load to 50% of the output to give you some wiggle room in a drought..

tmopar · · #6533

I have seen a purpose built pond setup for this purpose... a battery pack for the hydro so to speak

JKDReaper · · #6534

Hmmm, river comes down mountain by my house...I’ll have to look into it. I helped my friend put in solar last summer and thought aout just a couple panels to supplement but that sounds promising

tmopar · · #6535

solar is ... very expensive... 1 g for 1kw of panels and they dont even last for ever

tmopar · · #6536

you could go through the paper and list free junk hauling and have people call you to get their stuff... it depends on how far you want to go to keep your costs down

tmopar · · #6537

you are looking for leaky washers... they typically have good motors, they had a different part go bad... like a rear wrecked car for a radiator for instance.

JKDReaper · · #6538

Heh, well, honestly, prwtty much everything you named needed I have or my brother has, minus the length of piping. My yard doesnt look like the Dukes of Hazzard, but I am hillbilly at heart, just a neat one lol

tmopar · · #6539

the more motors you can successfully get to spin at a productive rpm (usually about 500 - 1k rpm, some higher) the more capacity you have

tmopar · · #6540

thats why you need a bunch... maybe 20 or so for a 10kw system

tmopar · · #6541

you also have to factor a load on the system slowing the RPM

tmopar · · #6542

getting the flow right is the difficult part

JKDReaper · · #6543

Ya, makes sense

tmopar · · #6544

part of the project I will be building a raspi controlled throttle for this situation, kinda like an ECU for a car

GregoryGHarding · · #6545

what convo did i miss

tmopar · · #6546

microhydro

GregoryGHarding · · #6547

lost me already

JKDReaper · · #6548

Ahh that’d be a good way to do it..

tmopar · · #6549

free power

tmopar · · #6550

legit... no hocus pocus... a hydro electric dam on private property

tmopar · · #6551

closed loop just for the miners

JKDReaper · · #6552

LOL hydro electricity in back yard more or less

GregoryGHarding · · #6553

rub your feet really hard on your carpet

GregoryGHarding · · #6554

positive line in your shoe, negative on carpet

JKDReaper · · #6555

Ya, keep it a contained system. Would need some protection from surges

tmopar · · #6556

you can make static electric generators but i mean its like hardly nearly nothing at all

GregoryGHarding · · #6557

200kh/s to 5mh/s gepending on scuff speed

tmopar · · #6558

micro hydro is way better than the solar shit, because you arent dependent on the sun... it just cant be done as easy as the solar

JKDReaper · · #6559

GregoryGHarding wrote: positive line in your shoe, negative on carpet
Haha

GregoryGHarding · · #6560

:D

JKDReaper · · #6561

GregoryGHarding wrote: 200kh/s to 5mh/s gepending on scuff speed
I bet if u put sand paper on your feet, maybe 1ts?

GregoryGHarding · · #6562

paper isnt conductive smarty pants

tmopar · · #6563

i disagree... theres aluminum paper in packs of gum that actually is conductive

JKDReaper · · #6564

@tmopar :  Ya it would be more involved and less "perfected" so more researching but sounds definately viable

tmopar · · #6565

you can make a fire with it

tmopar · · #6566

and a aa battery

GregoryGHarding · · #6567

.. because its aluminium

GregoryGHarding · · #6568

aluminium is conductive

GregoryGHarding · · #6569

its glued to the paper

GregoryGHarding · · #6570

the resistance heats up the paper and it ignites

JKDReaper · · #6571

GregoryGHarding wrote: .. because its aluminium
Specialized sand paper used in indusrtial is metal based lol so id get that :)

GregoryGHarding · · #6572

touche

JKDReaper · · #6573

Or or...get some wool pajamas like Peter Griffin

JKDReaper · · #6574

@tmopar :  Did you recently buy those S1s or had em a while?

tmopar · · #6575

i have had them since 14

tmopar · · #6576

i use them daily... i had 5 i sold one on ebay a while back, big flop bid out for like 21 bucks

GregoryGHarding · · #6577

whatta deal
