ouch, my first rule, never spend what you cant afford to lose.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:49 AM UTC · #22477
I wanted to mine btc when you could via a decent computer back in 09, but my parents were pretty poor and refused to believe it would pay off
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:49 AM UTC · #22478
Yeah, I figure I can lose it and be okay
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:50 AM UTC · #22479
not too worried, would be extremely upset if I missed the boat again
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:50 AM UTC · #22480
more worried about that lol
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:50 AM UTC · #22481
i cry, i was in college during the birth of the internet for us, 94, netscape navigator we went around and installed it everywhere.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:50 AM UTC · #22482
have 25% USD to repay myself, then 25% btc, 15% ltc, 15% zcash, 15% eth, then looking at Gulden, went 5% just to see what happens
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:50 AM UTC · #22483
and I had no clue how to profit or access money off that, but had crypto been around...with the campus access I had access to!
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:51 AM UTC · #22484
forget about it. Id be soo rich right now.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:51 AM UTC · #22485
Oh yeah, that would have been pretty insane - I was just a kid then
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:51 AM UTC · #22486
my aunt did pretty well in the .com boom
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:51 AM UTC · #22487
and she was early into the internet, I remember thinking email was a robot reading her mail outside LOL
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:52 AM UTC · #22488
i was setting up whole computer labs in the summers for the new building. I installed and had backdoor passworded access to over 1000 machines on campus at any time.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:52 AM UTC · #22489
I was like 5 though, maybe 6
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:52 AM UTC · #22490
IF the internet existed I could have run a nice DDOS attack from there.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:52 AM UTC · #22491
oh yeah, you would be very very rich
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:52 AM UTC · #22492
I still think crypto has a really really long way to go though
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:53 AM UTC · #22493
so even holding btc, etc. now has a lot of potential
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:53 AM UTC · #22494
that would have been like pentium 1 not even DX pentium machines, 1 step up from a 486, imagine that hasing CPU power. 30 megawatts of power!
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:53 AM UTC · #22495
I’m taking your same approach though
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:53 AM UTC · #22496
paying myself back, then continuing some cash payout, holding the rest
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:54 AM UTC · #22497
ideally Id love to pay myself back
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:54 AM UTC · #22498
and then hold everything for a year, so i only have to pay 15% on the capital gains instead of the full 33%.
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:54 AM UTC · #22499
it will just be a matter of if I can hold out cashing them in as I need them for spare cash to keep it going.
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:55 AM UTC · #22500
Is the site down for everyone, or just me ?
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:55 AM UTC · #22501
Ahh, yeah, and yeah it’s down
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:55 AM UTC · #22502
yeah was for me a few mins ago too
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:55 AM UTC · #22503
so the PH site being down is like whent he power goes out in the summer.
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:56 AM UTC · #22504
All the neighbors come out on the porch to see whats up and chat with each other a few minutes.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:56 AM UTC · #22505
If I had to I could switch jobs and make a lot more, but that would be a last resort. At this rate, the L3+’s are going to have themselves paid off in a few months
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:56 AM UTC · #22506
then the power comes up, they all go back to their lives.
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:56 AM UTC · #22507
Sore point. Power was out for 40 hours over the holiday weekend. Temp was 110...
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:56 AM UTC · #22509
In college, we had the power go out for maybe 5-10 minutes before we essentially had a peaceful riot burning stuff in the street LOL
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:57 AM UTC · #22510
Yeah, got contractors coming round on Monday to give quotes for a standby backup generator in the back yard...
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:57 AM UTC · #22511
like thousands of people, it was insane
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:57 AM UTC · #22512
OUCH sorry. well on a positive note...you saved a lot this month on your power bill?
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:57 AM UTC · #22513
oh wow, yeah that’s horrible
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:58 AM UTC · #22514
Well, being almost 50, my rioting days are ... well I think I remember having some of those, in my dim and distant youth. I was definitely a student once ... Oh look, a sparrow...
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:58 AM UTC · #22516
110 is brutal, I don’t think it has ever hit 110 where I live (I’ve obviously been in 110+, actually played in an outdoor bball tournament in that heat - my shoes actually melted)
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:58 AM UTC · #22517
close I get to rioting these days, is singing along to come on feel the noise on the raido.
GenotypeJim · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:58 AM UTC · #22519
Hello there. I see prohashingdotcom is down, anything to be worried about or does that happen all the time??
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:58 AM UTC · #22520
Yeah, I’m past them too, but it was pretty crazy to see how fast is escalated
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:59 AM UTC · #22521
It’s down, no worry, you will still be mining
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:59 AM UTC · #22522
seems to happen most days
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:59 AM UTC · #22523
It was 117 slightly further north in Stockton. Guess I should be counting my blessings [grin]
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:59 AM UTC · #22524
the mining and the website dont seem to be related.
GenotypeJim · Fri Sep 08, 2017 03:59 AM UTC · #22525
my brand new miners are definitely still working, lol *wahhhhhhhh*
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:00 AM UTC · #22526
Oh yeah, east of the bay is rough
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:00 AM UTC · #22527
Yeah, the GH/sec is actually higher at the top of the screen than I’ve ever seen it. Maybe that’s *why* the site is down
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:00 AM UTC · #22529
went on a road trip through sacramento area to get to yosemite, such brutal heat
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:00 AM UTC · #22531
no where now lol, back in college when the power went out
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:01 AM UTC · #22533
its not rioting its ragings...agasint the machines before they all rise up!
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:01 AM UTC · #22536
yep - waling into the back yard and burning your hand on the metal gate gets old real fast.
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:01 AM UTC · #22539
@spaced, we were up over 2800GH/s earlier on hashing scrypt
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:02 AM UTC · #22540
yeah, that was the highest I had personally seen, but I also haven’t been around as long as hashingpro
GenotypeJim · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:02 AM UTC · #22541
I’m in Melbourne Australia, back in 2009 it hit 46.4 deg or 115.52 f one day
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:02 AM UTC · #22542
@hashing was on here talking to people when I joined a few weeks ago
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:03 AM UTC · #22543
really ? Well damn. That’s a lot. Guess that explains my graph:
http://ltcwisdom.net hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:03 AM UTC · #22544
and I just made this account recently, realized the old one was my username, and didnt care for that security feature.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:03 AM UTC · #22545
wow, way too hot for me. I’m in the Seattle area, so it’s generally pretty mild, although upper 80’s and low 90’s are considered pretty hot here
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:03 AM UTC · #22546
yeah lol, I made sure to avoid the same just to be safe
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:03 AM UTC · #22547
i was shocked hashingpro was available as a username on here tbh.
GenotypeJim · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:04 AM UTC · #22548
yeah its called black saturday... 173 people died in bush fires.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:05 AM UTC · #22550
We actually have a lot of fires up here currently
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:05 AM UTC · #22551
buddy i play online games with was sent out with his firedeprtment to help out there.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:05 AM UTC · #22552
it was pretty much raining ash earlier in the week
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:05 AM UTC · #22553
@hashingpro: me too. I assumed you owned the place - Sneaky Steve
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:05 AM UTC · #22554
oh wow, and for real, that’s a sweet username lol
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:06 AM UTC · #22557
yeah i was like ok i need a name...PH...HP sure why not.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:06 AM UTC · #22558
East of seattle like 15 miles
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:07 AM UTC · #22561
Of course it is. He said SEATTLE area
GenotypeJim · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:07 AM UTC · #22562
@hashingpro, lol, u ever confuse support desk with a ticket with that name?
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:07 AM UTC · #22563
surprisingly not, I think it has been a while since we’ve had notable rain
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:07 AM UTC · #22564
i think ive been PMed 1 or 2 support tickets already.
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22567
Yeah we had 55 days without measurable rain this year lol
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22569
Maybe that’s why I sometimes see "STEVE ANSWER YOUR PM" messages. As if shouting at the guy will help...
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22570
when I joined, part of me wondered if you did happen to be a mod
SpacedCowboy · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22571
@Harrison: Are you *sure* you’re in Seattle ? [grin]
hashingpro · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22572
just to break up the chat lines i swapped to another color of text, then people thought i was a mod or dev, so i went back to black
Harrison · Fri Sep 08, 2017 04:08 AM UTC · #22573
but I saw you calling out Steve over the disconnects
