One mining server offline

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Sun May 02, 2021 10:40 am

One of the mining servers is currently offline for an unknown cause, affecting about one-tenth of miners.

We're investigating and hope to update everyone with more information shortly. The issue may be related to some strange live data issues we've been experiencing the past few days, but we can't be certain at this point.

I traced this problem down to one database table and woke Chris up to investigate it. For some reason, trying to select from the table just locks thing s up and never returns the data.

The mining server is back online after Chris killed 100 instances of this query that had backed up.

What happened is that this query never had any problems until now, when the number of new customers has risen significantly and therefore the table scans it was doing became very long. He's working on a way to make it perform faster with indexes so that this doesn't happen again. Until then, the coin selection data will be slightly out of date, but the effects on profitability are likely to be close to zero change since he should have it fixed within an hour or two.
