Orphans

Post by Lestat9 » Tue May 29, 2018 8:16 pm

I was having issues with sha-256 and mining coins like tiger coin I was getting lots orphans
I changed d= or difficulty setting down to 1000 and now i get few orphans
so it seems if you get orphans the difficulty is easy on the coin so you have to use that d= setting to compensate.

Hi Lestat,

I don't think that the changing of the "d=" setting was responsible for the reduction in orphan rates you experienced. Difficulty doesn't affect profits or orphan rates, unfortunately.

However, what did change was that Chris performed "shrinking of wallets" over the weekend. Some coins scan through every block we've ever found to look for inputs and outputs in a new block's transactions, to see if the local wallet's balance has changed. This scan slows down the coin daemon significantly, and the slowdown in block submission allows other miners to submit blocks more quickly and receive fewer orphans. Periodically, Chris creates new wallets with new addresses so that there are no outputs to scan and therefore the daemons perform better.

Thanks,

-Steve

So orphans just means mostly your miner is too fast and the coin is to easy to mine so you just have to wait until it gets more difficult....?
If that is so it is possible to set the miner at like 100 frequency and then you would have a very low hash rate...
Ill have to try that
