A little confused? Solo mining...

Post by markdil » Wed May 16, 2018 10:06 am

I am fairly new to mining. I have been mining LiteCoin solo. It seems I constantly get blocks from other coins with difficulties much higher than LiteCoin. But NEVER a LiteCoin block. Probability tells me I should. Maybe I am not understanding something. Could someone explain what is incorrect in my thought process?

Thanks!

If you're getting blocks that aren't litecoin you're not solo mining.

What are some of the other blocks you're getting? They might be the merged mining blocks.

Also just for reference, not that I think it would matter, but it's scrypt, not script

Leafcoin, Viacoin, Pesetacoin. I got five blocks in five minutes. Wish I could post a screenshot. Not sure how.

Something is not right.

I know it is Scrypt, my iPad loves to correct me.

If you're on an iPad I believe if you hold the sleep/wake button and click the home button you can take a screenshot.

I think those are merged mining blocks, which would be fine to get solo.

I have the screenshot, the forum won’t let me attach an image. Here it is:

If it is possible to find that many blocks, in that short of time, with those difficulties, why no LiteCoin?

It looks fine to me. You're getting merged mining blocks.

But why no LiteCoin? Difficulty of LiteCoin is 10,420,961.

Look at the difficulties of the blocks I found!!

Always other harder blocks, NEVER LiteCoin. Probability tells me otherwise. Something is amiss.

Well I don't know what your hashrate is, but difficulty isn't the only factor in finding blocks.

However, as an example, presently if you have 100 GH/s solo mining LTC you'd likely find on average 1 block every 5 days. Viacoin with the same hashrate would get about 4 blocks per day. Also I think the reported difficulties are wrong. Viacoin's present difficulty is about 585K.
