Chris to issue share corrections

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Fri Sep 29, 2017 3:58 pm

A bug was identified that caused some miners to receive lower balances today.

Chris will issue share corrections later in the evening, when a fix can be deployed and a detailed explanation posted. As usual, he will provide the 15% bonus in return for miners' troubles. For those who aren't aware, the documentation provides for a 15% bonus when share corrections are necessary to discourage miners from disconnecting during periods of issues. Only users who were mining during the problem period will be credited with the bonus.

Thank you for the update Steve - definitely explains the behavior I had been seeing (possibly fixed now).

The problem occurred from midnight until 4:59pm. Miners who were mining during that time will receive credit equal to the difficulty they mined at, times a factor that Chris needs to calculate. Shares at lower difficulties were worth more than shares at higher difficulties due to the issue, so people who mined with higher difficulties will gain more corrections (and more of the 15% bonus, too.)

The queries to determine how much money is owed will take a long time to compute, perhaps several days. In the meantime, existing balances will be paid as normal. When the queries complete, Chris will apply the balances whenever he is finished, so a future day will be higher and the current day will be lower.

Has the problem now been resolved for those mining at higher difficulty?

As a fairly new miner who intends to stick with PH for a long time, thank you for the hard work and transparency.

15% is nothing. We missed out on 50% of our normal mining amounts.

I'm not sure what you mean.

Chris's first calculations imply a correction of 60%, plus the 15% bonus, for a total of 69%. If anything, you'll earn more than 50%. Am I misunderstanding?
