Revisiting ASICBOOST

Post by bitwinter » Mon Oct 22, 2018 2:17 pm

Hi all,

So as I am sure some of you know by know bitmain has released a new firmware that supports ASIC BOOST.
See info here...

https://blog.bitmain.com/en/new-firmwar ... er-models/

Is there anything that the pool needs to do to support this ? or is upgrading firmware enough ?

I have upgraded 3 of my 11 S9's to the new firmware...they seem to be mining but I have no idea if its actually doing anything "more"

Just upgraded one S9 myself. Seems to be working fine on prohashing..... lower electricity consumption and higher hashrate.

If anyone's looking for a backup pool, I believe kano.is supports it as well.

As far as I'm aware, no changes are necessary.

The obsolete version of this miner's firmware had support for a different version of ASICBOOST, which was only half implemented. We added support for that version by reverse-engineering its protocol, because we believed that they would create new firmware that would finish its implementation. Had they completed that implementation, that theoretical version of firmware would have worked.

The actual firmware that was just released implements the same protocol as the Halong miners use. We already have support for that form, so if you upgrade the firmware, you'll just make more money right away.

Has anyone tried S9J's with this firmware on Prohashing?

I'm seeing lower average hashrates along with lower temperatures and power consumption. Likely a net wash. Much ado about nothing it seems.

I have not found such a firmware for s9, the latter was published on 23.10.2018 with low power mod. Antminer-S9-LPM-20181023.tar.gz is it?
