Don't solo mine Carboncoin. It does not have a block reward. The difficulty is actually so low you can mine it using the desktop CPU (difficulty is 0.3).
As for the RPC interface, Carboncoin released a new client since the new year.

Sure a lot of coins will start working with the updated code fixes after the patches are put in and work.
