Release tomorrow

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Sat Feb 22, 2020 8:30 am

Tomorrow morning, we will be issuing a new system release. The purpose of this release is to enable equihash<125,4> mining, with Zelcash being the first coin available on that algorithm.

We expect five minutes of downtime to reconfigure the system to accept this new algorithm.

This release was postponed until tomorrow.

While I was able to validate that the new algorithm will work on production earlier today, during the testing we found that Stex changed its API. All of the Stex-only coins are now in error.

We need to implement a new API for Stex, but we don't want to restart the mining server twice. We decided that the potential for lost revenue from miners who would not reconnect for a while after the second restart would be greater than the opportunity cost of not releasing this new algorithm today, so we're going to add in the Stex changes and attempt to release tomorrow.

We attempted this release to one of the eight mining servers, and it failed.

Chris is analyzing the data to determine why some miners received "incorrect algorithm" errors, and he will report back soon.
