Share corrections to be issued

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Tue May 07, 2019 5:20 pm

We discovered a separate bug, unrelated to the issues we've been investigating over the past few days, that caused some shares not to be inserted. The issue appears to have been triggered by the restarts that occurred due to the failing motherboard. A failing motherboard had never been present in development, and nobody thought to test for how the system would respond in that situation.

The issue caused about 10% of hashrate to be unrecorded, although no money was actually lost. Chris will review miners' earnings back until May 2 and issue share corrections for that additional 10%.

These share corrections will actually be updated since April 29, not May 2. The corrections are more complex than anticipated, and may require 2 days to write and execute the queries. The corrections are large, and it's likely that 0.5 to 1 day of earnings will be credited to miners who mined during the entire period.

We just discovered that there were tickets submitted about the problem right after it started, but that was the same day that we discovered the long-existing issue with stale shares being credited, and we erroneously assumed that the tickets were referring to that issue. It turns out that nobody reading the tickets had the idea to investigate whether there was any other cause.

After the issue has been resolved, someone will attempt to reproduce the issue so that if a motherboard fails in the future, the share recorders will recover. For now, the issue will not recur because we determined that simply rebooting the share inserters will prevent it should the motherboard crash again before it is replaced on May 23.

I do not know how you think the percentage that is not credited. But over the past day, with one antminer S9 should have gone + - $ 3.2, and credited $ 2.4. What is 25%. The difference is more than significant.

Chris investigated the corrections and did not find any widespread issues that indicate that corrections should reach 25% in any time period. Please submit a support ticket and Chris will be glad to investigate your individual case to see if something could be wrong with your mining equipment.

Chris has now corrected all of the shares. About $5500 was credited to customers, and those corrections have already been paid with today's payouts.
