Upcoming changes to reporting of profitability

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:16 am

I wanted to announce that, later this week, there will be some changes to the way we report profitability. Currently, all profitability metrics are reported in MH/s. However, as more miners come online, the numbers inevitably fall lower and lower until eventually the profitabilities will end up with numbers like 0.0003 cents/MH/s.

Beginning with the next release, profitabilities listed on the site will be provided with the following units:
  • Scrypt: cents/MH/s/day
  • X11: cents/GH/s/day
  • Equihash: cents/S/day
  • SHA-256: cents/TH/s/day
These numbers, which are displayed on the website, may change in the future, since we now have the capability to do that. The amount of money earned, of course, won't change.

Because we are always frustrated with developers who change APIs for no good reason, the API for "profitability_updates" will not change. For all four algorithms, profitability will be reported in MH/s or MS/s, allowing customers subscribed to the APIs the ability to continue to use them without breaking changes.
