The recent increase in Bitcoin XT nodes is a result of new nodes being brought online, not because of replacement of existing Core nodes, so it is not indicative of any sort of "revolt."
The number of full nodes is a vague metric. I could easily, with a few hundred bucks a month, increase by 100 ...
